Diaspora London Music Village 2008 is a free open air music festival in Hyde Park, London taking place from Saturday 12th to Sunday 13th July, from 1-9pm each day.
It is the 24th Music Village since 1983 and presents over 80 top-class performers of African, Asian, Middle Eastern, Latin American, Mediterranean and Eastern European origin, all of them drawn from London's diaspora communities.The festival has focussed on a wide range of subjects of topical interest. Some have concentrated on the living traditional cultures of particular geographic regions, others have addressed general worldwide themes that transcend territorial boundaries as well as divisions of culture and faith.

Twenty groups of London-based performers are featured in two days of music, dance and spoken word from all over the world. The line-up includes African, Latin, Jewish, Asian, Kurdish, East European and Chinese performance styles, to reflect decades of converging migrations into London from every corner of the earth.

The festival is an eagerly awaited event in London's annual cultural calendar and is organised by arts charity, Cultural Co-operation

Stornoway, Isle of Lewis, Scotland - The annual Hebridean Celtic Festival will be held from Wednesday 16th of July to Saturday 19th of July, four days of music featuring top international artists set against the backdrop of the Gaelic culture and Hebridean heritage.

The event is expected to attract 15,000 people over 4 days. The headline acts include The Saw Doctors, Four Men and a Dog, Shooglenifty, and Red Hot Chilli Pipers. Also appearing are Seth Lakeman, Julie Fowlis, Hunger Mountain Boys, Griff, Karine Polwart, Mairi Smith, Alasdair White, Mary Ann Kennedy & Na Seoid (The Heroes), The Chair from Orkney, and Bodega.

Many complementary events are also hosted by community groups around Stornaway and the islands of Lewis and Harris catering for a variety of tastes both musical and otherwise. There are also workshops often given by many of the festival's performers, which includes masterclas sessions with Douglas Montgomery, Ross Ainslie & Jarlath Henderson and Mairi Smith. Also included are the ever popular Gaelic langauage tasters, lectures and children's entertainment plus numerous pub sessions in Stornoway and the surrounding area.

The Maryport Blues Festival takes place from Friday 25th to Sunday 27th July 2008.
Chuck Berry, one of the most influential figures in popular music and one of the pioneers of rock and roll music will headline the Friday night with US blues diva Shemekia Copeland playing earlier that evening.

Legendary blues guitarist, Jimmie Vaughan will headline the Saturday night with an exclusive UK performance. Jimmie will be joined by the Tilt-a-Whirl band and Austin's Queen of Blues, Lou Ann Barton, making a rare UK appearance.

Jools Holland and the Rhythm & Blues Orchestra will headline Sunday night. Sunday will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Maryport Blues Festival, featuring some of the artists who have appeared at the festival over the last decade. Jools headlined the third festival in 2001 and was an obvious favourite to headline the celebrations on the Sunday.

Maryport is a small delightful harbour town situated on the beautiful Solway Firth.
Its history, covering 2000 years, boasts a Roman Fort, Georgian buildings, Victorian docks and industries which have included coal mining, iron making, shipping and shipbuilding and many fascinating liks with famous men and historical events. The blues festival main stage is located in a marquee on the Netherhall Rugby grounds and fields by the River Ellen, just a short walk from the town centre and the trail takes place in pubs and clubs around town.

"Oxford Town Hall is the site of our Box Office, Craft Fair, Workshops and Bar as well as the focus of some fantastic concerts on two separate stages - the Main Hall and the Cornbury Stage. Additional events are sited at the Holywell Music Room, Oxford Brookes, the Newman Rooms and at various pubs around the city."

This massive outdoor event is part of Nelson Mandela's 90th birthday celebrations, and will help raise money for his Aids awareness charity - 46664.
Mandela said about the event:" London wants to celebrate my birthday and I said I would go if they would raise funds for our charities. So, we have a bargain - I am going to London and they there will host a concert in Hyde Park, which will raise awareness of our continuing work and much needed funds."

46664 was Nelson Mandela's prison number when he was imprisoned on Robben Island...more.
